Richard lives near Dunblane and has been working for Making Music since 1996. He works part time 3 days per week, and is responsible for supporting the Making Music Scotland Committee and developing training and development initiatives for the benefit of Making Music and its member organisations in Scotland. Amongst the events he has promoted have been a number of workshops and seminars on subjects including:

  • Management of your Group, Standards, Funding and Marketing

  • Making Music Representatives

  • Workshops for Conductors including a weekend masterclass and workshop led by Christopher Bell.

  • Development workshop for the accompanists of our vocal groups.

  • Come and Sing events

Richard is responsible for liaison with Scottish Arts Council and the overall management of funds allocated by SAC and he works very closely with the Making Music Scotland Committee on utilisation of the funds. He has employed some of the money to initiate a Development Grant fund to which member groups can apply for training projects.  Click the link on the left of this page to find out more.

Richard has developed a Development Plan for Scotland with the Scottish Committee. This will support the Committee's responsibilities in meeting the objectives of Making Music's 5 Year Plan as well as promoting development projects for the benefit of individual groups. He regularly meets with local authority arts officers to discuss how they might be able to help with the various aspects the Plan.

He also supervises Project Officers in Scotland when applicable.

Recent activities have included workshops on Audience Development and Managing Allocation Funding.  Click the link on the left for details of workshops as they become available.

Members should feel free to contact Richard to discuss any issue relating to Development.
