NEW Orchestra Project for Scotland (SONO)

Did you and members of your group miss the first weekend of Making Music Scotland’s orchestral project last September?

These are some of comments from those who participated in the September workshop………

........ a very special, exciting and fulfilling weekend …….I met, and had the great pleasure of playing with some of the best people and musicians that we have in Scotland. I think that we should all be very proud of what was achieved ……I expect even greater things to happen when the weekend returns to Edinburgh in the early New Year!

I am exhausted, but have had a truly fantastic weekend……..This weekend has taught me so much and has left me wanting to learn more, so thank you once again for the opportunity…….I look forward to more of the same at the January rehearsals and concert……….

Thanks for one of the best weekends I have ever had. There is no criticism that I could make except that I wish there was another one next week. For a beginner like me, it was an exponential learning curve which I could never have achieved in my other orchestra or with my lessons……I can’t thank Making Music enough for organising the weekend and look forward to January. I think it was great value for money when you consider everything we got………

I would like to say a huge thank you to Making Music for organising such a terrific orchestral weekend. It was a great experience to play under a conductor of the calibre of David Angus and to work with such an enthusiastic group of people.

Following on from the outstanding success of this first weekend, a second weekend of continued rehearsals of Mahler Symphony No.1, culminating in a public concert in Greyfriars Church, will take place in Edinburgh in St Thomas Aquinas RC High School from Friday 16th January to Sunday 18th January.  We are delighted that this weekend and the concert will be conducted by Garry Walker (click here to read his biography)

There is no audition! (Musicians will be accepted at any time dependent on the instrumentation required for the Mahler symphony.)

Booking for Edinburgh is now open! – if you attended the workshop in Glasgow, or have already expressed interest in the January workshop, we will send you booking details, otherwise download a booking form by clicking the link on the left.  If you have any questions please, send an email to sandra.johnson@makingmusic.org.uk

This Making Music Scotland project will mark the inauguration of a new national Scottish amateur orchestra currently known as SONO.  Further weekends will be planned for 2009 - 10 to build on the first year and take the project forward.  The initial rehearsals and concert are open to all amateur instrumentalists playing in Scotland, and all are welcome.  The cost for the Edinburgh workshop will be £70.

Don’t miss the opportunity to be a founding member of
this exciting new orchestra!
